Downtown Toronto Physiotherapist

Have you been in a car accident as a driver, passenger, pedestrian or cyclist in Toronto?

Some car accidents may result in minor injuries that resolve on their own within a couple weeks. Most accidents however result in injuries that do not resolve without therapy and can be ongoing for months to years depending on the type of therapy you receive in the weeks following the accident.

Painkillers and hot packs may be helpful for a headache but is not usually enough for injuries sustained in a car accident. Some of the more common injuries are to the neck, low back, shoulders, knees, wrists, and chest. Many people also report headaches, numbness/tingling in their arms, hands, legs and feet, and weakness. Some people also have an increase in blood pressure following an accident due to stress and injuries. Any numbness, tingling, headaches, or weakness may be a sign of a serious injury and should be reported to your health care provider.

Many people are not sure what sort of therapy they need after an accident. the[clinic] offers a multidisciplinary setting where you can receive chiropractic care, physiotherapy, massage and exercise therapy. You do not need a referral or recommendation from a family doctor to start therapy.

Things to look for in a clinic after a car accident:

Multidisciplinary- the clinic should offer a variety of therapies such as chiropractic, physiotherapy, massage, exercise, laser, ultrasound etc..

Location- the clinic should be located close to diagnostic imaging and hospitals. If you take public transit, it should also be located close to a subway or bus stop.

Convenience- the clinic should have hours that fit in with your schedule or offer home visits in the event you are not able to go to the clinic.

Amenities- You will be spending a lot of time at the clinic so make sure it is somewhere you are comfortable going to and that you like the staff , therapists and doctors there.

Professionalism- Make sure the clinic you are going to is organized and run by professionals so that you do not run into problems with your auto insurance provider when submitting claims. You should also find somewhere that you can trust with your health.

the[clinic] offers all of the above so call 416.366.1710 or email to book your appointment today. the[clinic] offers direct billing so that your auto insurance will cover the cost of all treatment at the[clinic].

Dorian Hardy-Dessources, Osteopath downtown Toronto

Osteopath in Downtown Toronto

Why see an osteopath in downtown Toronto?

the[clinic]‘s osteopath Dorian works to improve or restore the normal physiological function of interrelated body structures and systems, and, enhance the body’s natural ability to health itself. He uses various manual assessment and treatment techniques and modalities to help people of all ages and backgrounds who suffer injury, pain or other health concerns by easing the pain, reducing swelling, improving tissue mobility and promoting efficient healing.  Restricted  or constricted areas of the body – areas which are not moving normally or are “strangled” or “squeezed” may exist in the following systems:

  • musculoskeletal [back pain...]
  • respiratory [asthma..]
  • cardiovascular [hypertension..]
  • digestive [IBS, Crohns, Collitis...]
  • reproductive [Infertility...]
  • nervous [stress, anxiety...]

Osteopathic Manual Practitioners seek to identify and then gently ease the restrictions or constrictions so the body can function normally again.

Manual osteopathy is based on 4 basic principles:

  1. Each structure in the body supports the body’s functions. If a structure is damaged, out of place, or otherwise not working properly, the body will not function at its best.
  2. The natural flow of the body’s fluids – lymphatic, vascular, and neurological – must be preserved and maintained.
  3. The human body is the sum of its parts. Its physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and cognitive systems don’t work independently -they work in harmony.
  4. When the body has no restrictions, it has the inherent ability to heal itself.

Osteopathic Manual Practitioners recognize that a patient is an integrated whole. When all of the body’s components are in balance, a person is complete and in total health.
